Where do we consent to when we install an app and press I accept? And what can the companies behind the apps do with the information they collect in this way? In the short docu I Accept Anthony an experiment to try to get the awnsers to these questions.A short investigative documentary about privacy on smartphones.
For this documentary Anthony developed an app that had no other purpose than to collect the same data that common smartphone apps collect when they’re installed. After a group of volunteers installed the app on their phones, he collected and analysed the data such as GPS records, Wi-Fi SSID’s, contacts, email addresses etc. to make detailed profiles of the volunteers’ financial and social situation to emulate what big data companies do and find out what these data companies know about people they are collecting data from. Is Anthony avle to make accurate assumptions about the volunteers by using the collected data?
